THE TOMBSTONES OF OZAROW

By Norman L. Weinberg

We are pleased to publish for the first time, a comprehensive listing of all monuments with legible texts in the cemetery of Ozarow. As the custom in Ozarow was not to affix surnames on the stones, we ask readers to help in identifying those buried in the Ozarow cemetery.

The following names of those interred in the Ozarow Cemetery have been discerned from the photographs. The first name in bold letters, father's name, date of death and if Cohen or Levy are presented, in that order. Additional information, including maiden name, surname if known, and corresponding secular date, etc. is given in parentheses.

(A)-The photographs in the Ozarów Cemetery Photo Album were compiled by Dr. Norman Weinberg of East Amherst, N.Y., who donated the Photo Album to the Esh Dat Rabbinical Seminary Archives located at P.O. Box 36628, Tel Aviv, Israel.

(B)-The first monument is that of Rebetzin Draizel, daughter of Rabbi Eliezer Shalom Morgenstern, Rabbi of Pietrakov-Shedlitz. Draizel was the wife of Rabbi Arye Leibish Epstein, third Rabbi of Ozarów, and the grandmother of Moishe Yechiel Epstein Z.T.L. of Tel Aviv, the late Ozarówer Rabbi.
